SSANGYONG MUSSO WINS 'BEST VALUE PICK-UP' IN 4X4 MAGAZINE'S PICK-UP OF THE YEAR AWARDS

The SsangYong Musso pick-up has been named as the ‘Best Value Pick-up’ in 4x4 magazine's Pick-up of the Year awards, and follows on from the SsangYong Rexton winning the ‘Best Value Off-roader’ and ‘4x4 of the Year 2018’ awards in 4x4 magazine earlier this year.

Commented Alan Kidd, editor of 4x4 magazine: “SsangYong has muscled in on the pick-up market this year with the new Musso, and the company now has a truck that deserves to be spoken of in the same breath as the segment's big hitters. As well as having the most SUV-like cabin design you'll find anywhere, its combination of payload and towing capacity means it's also a brutally strong work truck.

“For a long time, SsangYong built vehicles noted for being cheap. Now there's a real quality to them, yet they're still cheaper than the opposition. The Musso is a perfect example of a truck with a good purchase price which also comes with a warranty the likes of which we never thought we'd see in the UK. SsangYong does still have to break down a perception barrier with a lot of British customers, but the Musso is just the truck to do that.”

Nick Laird, managing director of SsangYong Motor UK, said: “For an all-new truck launched only a few months ago to do so well against such established and strong competition is a great result. This completely supports the brand’s value proposition, and it’s tremendous to see our approach being endorsed by such knowledgeable and independent journalists.”

Established over 25 years ago, 4x4 magazine’s 4x4 of the Year awards have become recognised as the leading experts’ verdict on the best vehicles in the SUV, pick-up and off-road market.

The awards are based on continuous testing over the 12 months leading up to the awards issue. Journalists assess each vehicle comprehensively, looking at everything from interior quality and cabin comfort to off-road ability and performance, both laden and unladen. They also pay particular attention to things such as value for money and running costs, which really matter to pick-up buyers in the real world.

SsangYong Musso

The all-new SsangYong Musso pick-up arrived in the UK in the summer and is already disrupting the fast-growing pick-up market as a tough, strong and value-for-money 4x4.

Built on the same architecture as the new Rexton - which has already been awarded ‘4x4 of the Year 2018’ by 4x4 magazine - Musso shares its body-on-frame construction to give an extremely strong vehicle that delivers excellent off-road driving performance and safety from its quad-frame and four-wheel-drive system.

The new Musso is an extremely competent multi-purpose truck with SsangYong values to the core - comprehensively equipped, a sector leading 7-year/150,000 mile warranty with a value for money package, plus a surprising level of interior refinement and great infotainment.

Designed to carry passengers in comfort and transport loads securely, the SUV-based Musso combines a five-seat crew-cab body style with a workman-like load deck that will take a full-sized Euro pallet. It also carries a payload of over 1-tonne and tows trailers of up to 3.5 tonnes concurrently to give the highest total load capacity in the segment. This combination of utility pick-up and SUV means Musso offers the perfect blend of functionality, practicality, performance and comfort to the driver and family or workmates.

Musso is powered by the same e-XDi220 engine found in the Rexton, and delivers a maximum power of 181ps at 4,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 400Nm at 1,600 to 2,600 rpm. It is available with either a 6-speed manual or an Aisin 6-speed automatic with its success proven by SsangYong and several other automotive brands.

Inside, Musso is exceptionally well equipped compared with other pick-ups, and as well as offering excellent shoulder and leg room front and rear, Nappa leather seats can be found on the top of the range model for added luxury and comfort. DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity feature across the range, while all but the entry level model feature a state-of-the-art infotainment system that includes an 8-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Wi-fi mirroring, or 9.2-inch screen with TomTom navigation on top line models. Prices start at just £19,995 ex VAT.
