Exciting time for SsangYong UK27-07-2011
The arrival of the new Korando in the UK follows some significant changes behind the scenes at SsangYong.
SsangYong Motor UK (SYMUK), the new importer, will distribute the marque in the UK. The company promises an expanded dealer network and a raft of new models in coming years, including extensions to the Korando range. The UK moves follow the 70 per cent acquisition of SsangYong by Indian engineering conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra.
“This is superb news for our dealers and customers who have been so loyal to the brand,” says MD Paul Williams. Ssangyong expects to showcase an electric vehicle as well as a road-going version of the SUT1 sports utility pickup concept (pictured above at Geneva) at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
“We have ambitious sales targets and aspirations for the brand in the UK,” says Williams. “We will continue to aim our four wheel drive products at the caravan/trailer and rural markets, while the Korando crossover and its derivatives enable us to expand into the mainstream car market and fleet sector. To this end we intend introducing a number of exciting marketing initiatives.”
SsangYong Motor UK will operate from the existing parts logistics centre in Luton and administration office in Fleet.
