SsangYong expects sales of its new Tivoli crossover to grow substantially with the arrival of a diesel version.
The petrol model has been on sale since May, but is now being joined by a 1.6-litre Euro 6 emissions-compliant model with 140bhp and 221lbft of torque.
In two-wheel-drive form with a manual gearbox, CO2 emissions levels are 113g/km, which compares to the 149g/km of the petrol version, also of 1.6 litres.
Combined cycle fuel economy of the diesel is 65.7mpg while it can also be ordered with a six-speed auto, its combined cycle figure 51.4mpg.
SsangYong is putting the Tivoli diesel on sale in three trim levels, with the entry level SE. In this form the car costs from £14,200, which is £1,250 more than the petrol version.
EX models, costing from £14,600 petrol and £15,850 as a disesel, add grey or beige leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy Spiral wheels, dual zone climate control, a seven-inch touchscreen smart audio system with rear view camera, heated front seats, front fog lights and a luggage load cover.
The range-topping ELX costs from £16,000 (petrol 2WD) and is available in front or four-wheel-drive form, and includes diamond-cut alloy wheels, a smart instrument cluster, smart keyless starting, front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass, rear spoiler, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a full TomTom navigation system.
Also available is the My Tivoli personalisation programme, which offers a range of bespoke options.
According to SsangYong Motor UK CEO Paul Williams the Tivoli is the biggest thing to happen to the brand. “We have been delighted with the reaction to the car from the media and all importantly from owners,” he says.
“Tivoli is being praised for its style, safety and equipment, interior space and finish, and with the introduction of diesel we can now offer greater power, increased economy and a 1.5-tonne towing capability, while also underlining the SsangYong proposition of value for money, backed by a warranty no one else can match,” Williams adds.
