SsangYong is a franchise set to grow, and it means business. With a new owner, a world renowned distributor and – in Korando – a competitive crossover model, the Korean car maker is a greater force in the marketplace. Who owns SsangYong?

SsangYong Korea is majority owned by Indian multinational Mahindra and Mahindra, which has ambitious plans to develop the SsangYong brand through export sales and the launch of new products. Korando will be followed early in 2012 by a lifestyle pickup based on the Q150 concept shown at the 2011 Geneva Show.

SsangYong Motor UK Ltd is owned and funded by the Bassadone Automotive Group, a family owned Gibraltar based company with distribution and retail businesses across many automotive brands, largely in Europe and North Africa. Bassadone is well funded and sees the opportunity to establish a substantial business in the UK through the SsangYong brand.

What are the products?

Korando is an all-new vehicle targeting the fastest growing segment of the UK car market – small crossovers. In a segment dominated by Japanese and Korean brands, Korando stands out as having the best value for money in terms of absolute retail price, and also specification for that price.

All SsangYong vehicles come with a 5 year limitless mileage warranty.

Alongside Korando are updated versions of Rexton and Rodius, giving SsangYong a strong opportunity in the heavy 4x4 and large MPV markets. These well established vehicles offer unparalleled value for money, starting from £14,995 for Rodius and £19,995 for Rexton.

What are the dealer terms?

We believe our franchise partners should have the opportunity to make money with minimal administration.

We have dealer-selected objectives. Dealers choose one of three bands, each of which has differing sales objectives, demonstrator and stock requirements. And the higher the band, the higher the unit support provided from unit one. Minimum dealer standards are just that – the essentials to operate a business.

We offer competitive and straightforward dealer margins; we believe in absolute numbers expressed in £s rather than percentages. There are no strings but there is an upside potential linked to the target band selected.

There is a floorplan facility in place that is not linked to retail finance, allowing us to select the best possible retail provider. Parts supply will be over 90% first time pick (ex GB) by December.
